Experience some of the best sport fishing in the world
Just when you thought you had tried everything...
Did you ever think you would catch game fish from a yacht? Well you will with Gamesail. Marlin Strike! Double Strike - Even Triple Strike! - It's all happened aboard our luxury charter yachts.
Kupe (a 60' motorsailer catamaran) and Te Okupu (62' motorsailer catamaran) were designed especially for us by Ron Given as a stable fishing platform, with maximum range to go where the fish are, in comfort and style. You can enjoy a wide range of game fishing on board - from full-on sport fishing for Tuna and Marlin, to the more sedate pace of deep water straylining or soft baiting for snapper.
Everything you need on board and plenty for non-fishers to do too!
On board we have everything you need. Our partners,
CD Sports, provide the latest rods and reels for you to choose from. There are plenty of specialty lures and bait and an experienced fishing guide who knows our waters inside-out. The large fishing platform at the stern allows you plenty of space to play and tag your trophy fish. Your friends and family can feel like they are part of the action from the elevated lounge areas in the large cockpit. And there is plenty for you all to do on board when you have caught enough fish - swimming, diving and sailing and relaxing in remote luxury. Check out our fishing itineraries.
Tackle this
Our team knows where the fish are, and how to get them up on deck. We fish NZ waters from November - April each year and, like the fish, can follow the deep warm water currents between The Kings and East Cape off the north-western coast of New Zealand's North Island.
In the January to April season, the Great Barrier Island and Mokohinau Islands area is very productive for Albacore Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna and Marlin, as well as having an abundance of Snapper, Kingfish (Yellow tail) and Hapuka (Sea Bass). At the same time of the year, The Bay of Plenty has huge runs of both Yellow fin and Blue fin Tuna. Other catches are Albacore Tuna and Marlin. View our fishing photogallery for some good pics.
Further north, in "Zane Grey Country" - the Bay of Islands, the same January - April season yields Blue and Striped Marlin. Go North again, and we have the range to fish the magnificent Three Kings Islands. Located 40 miles northwest of the most northern tip of New Zealand, Cape Reinga, this small group of islands are remote, rugged and perched on top of sheer underwater dropoffs of thousands of feet. The huge upwellings of water sound like underwater waterfalls and can be very eerie at times, but it is these same formations that bring the big Marlin to the area. The best season is April - June.
