Gamesail celebrates the launch of
luxury catamaran Te Okupu
Gamesail launched their new addition 60' Te Okupu at Okahu Bay in Auckland on Saturday 21 November following a Maori blessing and naming ceremony. She is sister yacht to Te Ngakau A Kupe which was launched in November 2005.
The launch of Te Okupu is the culmination of careful design and planning by boat designer Ron Given and Gamesail's director John Erkkila. It has taken four years construction by our team of experienced local boat builders, headed by Craig Wild.
Ron and John have taken the blueprint created for Kupe and have refined and enhanced it to create Te Okupu. Family groups including children, most frequently book Gamesail vacations, so the addition of two extra beds and an extra 2 feet of boat length will mean Te Okupu can cater for up to eight guests in absolute comfort.
The name "Te Okupu" comes from John and Christine's affinity to the settlement of Okupu on the West Coast of Great Barrier Island. This is the location of Gamesail's property "Bay Lodge Cottage". Okupu means "the message" or "the word" in Maori, as Okupu was the site of the first mail service on Great Barrier Island. See the launch in pictures>>
